A. Introduction
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Congratulations on purchasing the ultimate Karaoke CD! Unlike other
CD's that require a specialized player and special hardware, all of
the songs on this CD use powerful software karaoke players that work
with the popular MIDI Karaoke format! That means no hassles, just
insert the CD and you are off and singing!
B. Using the Programs
--------------------------------------------------------------------
All of the programs included on this CD can be run right from the
CD-ROM itself. This means, they won't use any of your valuable
hard-drive space. Some programs however do like to "save" configur-
ations and setup info onto your hard drive or require special files
to be installed on your machine. For this reason, you may encounter
unexpected results when a program tries to run from the CD-ROM. In
this case, you should install the program to your hard drive.
The Karaoke 99 Menu has a small blue "Install" button next to each
program so you can do this easily.
All of the songs are located in the "Songs" folder on the CD. You
will need to locate this folder from within the karaoke player
program you have chosen to use so it can play the individual songs.
Check the help files and readme files from within each program for
more specific info on how to use them.
C. Improving The Sound
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Those of you unfamiliar with MIDI will wonder why the songs sound
"computerish" or not like real instruments. The most likely reason is
the quality of your sound card. Basic sound cards, even brand names
like the Sound Blaster Series, use FM Synthesis to reproduce the
song information within each MIDI Karoake file. The result, is very
computer-sounding music. The ideal way to hear MUCH better sound is
to simply purchase a better sound card. You will want one with
"Wavetable Synthesis". Basically, any sound card that has the word
"wavetable" in it will sound MUCH MUCH better then your present card.
In fact, these cards are very inexpensive and often are only $20 more
than a basic FM Synthesis card. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND you purchase one
of these. The wavetable technology uses real samples of real
instruments for an incredibly lifelike sound. Especially pianos,
horns, and percussion.
Check the Faq.txt file on this CD for a list of good wavetable cards.
D. More Fun Stuff
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Make sure to check out the EasyKar program on the CD, it let's you
add lyrics to any MIDI song. There are literally thousands of MIDI
songs available today all over the Internet and on compilation CD's.
Chances are, if you did not find your favorite song on this CD-ROM,
you can find it in MIDI format and just add the lyrics yourself.
Also, be sure and check out the faq.txt file on this CD-ROM for more
info about Midi Karaoke!
E. Troubleshooting
--------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have a problem running the menu, which is the "karaoke.exe"
file, it will most likely be a message that says something like:
"unable to load sky32v3c.dll". The solution is to copy this file
from the CD-ROM's root folder/directory to your c:\windows\system
folder. ---Any other questions or problems running the software
will likely be addressed in each program's readme or help file.
